Toby’s Story

Over the last 20 years, Toby has photographed thousands of events working with countless wedding couples, families, and top international corporations. Six generations born and raised in Hawaii, Toby started his photography business at just 17 years old following in the footsteps of his father, an accomplished Photographer and Fisherman. Realizing he had a natural talent and ready to learn more, Toby immersed himself in photography in New York where he apprenticed with several top photographers and gained a wealth of experience in the industry and technique. Feeling inspired Toby then decided to return home to Hawaii, where the tropical beauty continues to inspire his art every day.  Toby has a special passion for photographing people and thus, weddings and portraits have become among his favorite subjects to capture. 

Technique

Toby's technique is grounded in his previous experience shooting film which allows him to evaluate the light intuitively and each situation creatively, making manual adjustments that result in artistic interpretations. This combination produces timeless, candid images that are magazine-ready without a need for heavy post-production manipulations. The final product:  natural, photojournalistic, and pure images that speak for themselves. 

Moving quickly and unobtrusively, Toby's experience and skill allow him to see and capture a diverse range of photos that tell the story of each event.  He is acutely aware of the special details, and the significant moments, taking extra care not to miss anything, while always maintaining his signature calm. 

Personality 

Often overlooked is how much time you spend with your photographer and the integral part of your event they play. It is important to have someone who makes you and your guests feel comfortable. The greatest attribute with Toby lies here.
